Simple and concrete leadership

"I am only one but I am still one. I cannot do everything but I can do something. And because I cannot do everything I will not refuse the something I can do." as said by Everett Hale.

Let me emphasize something. Each one of us is just one among the billion youths worldwide. And youth is just one sector in every society. It might look like we are just a speck of dust. However, deep inside we know that there are many things we can do and , undoubtedly, we are good at it.

The leaders in us... Youths are pioneers and advocates of leadership. We gave importance in establishing a common ground an exerted efforts towards service to our country. Each one of us has an inner sense of authority, a great ingredient in being a leader. But, like everything else, leadership has both the light and the dark side of the coin. Being in control sets you higher. Others begin to trust in your leadership potentials. But the darker side is, most leaders lead by intimidation. Sometimes too, they tend to forget that a leader's main concern is producing more leaders than more followers.

Forgive me for stating this. How about we take a look at the Sangguniang Kabataan? SK's motives, they say, is to train the youth to be aware of the political pros and cons and be model citizens. Most SK officials now vied for the office because they are persuaded by the higher officials, right? Are these SK officials aware that they are also, in a way, being trained on the know-hows of corruption? In sharing less and taking the lion's share? Neophytes will never learn the trade if they aren't taught how!

Are we, the should be serviced youth, really compensated in their actions? You might say, 'don't ask what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.' I say that minding our governments action is the terminal to country service.

SK is not the only avenue to leadership and youth governance. It does not serve its purpose but serves the purpose of corruption. It only divides a youth leader's attention between education and political conspiracies. Youth leaders are more trained in school than in SK where all they do is spend money in attending the sessions and listen to the useless, unending bickerings of untrue officials.

Collectively, concrete and simple leadership has a significant positive impacts. A manifestation of your leadership qualities --- like bonding with your team, making things happen despite the ridicules,--- all these makes an established impacts that somehow the small is the hope of the youth.

We may just be youths, but we are mavericks of our own time. We can be heroes. We are youths. we are leaders. We can be the change we wish to see in the world. Lastly, for all youth leaders, inspire other people to become leaders themselves. One day, they will surprise you with their ingenuity.
